Golf at school

Over the last couple of days we have been having golf lessons at school. Things have changed since we had PE lessons when I went to school! All we had in those days was netball, hockey and swimming.

Amy meets with Tony Blair

Amy was walking past a hotel in Melbourne on the Commonwealth Games closing night and found out that Tony Blair was about to come out so hung about for a bit. Lo and behold Tony came out and walked about three metres away from her. She wished she had shaken his hand for posterity!!!!

A sunset, a visit and a powercut

We have just got home from visiting Aunty Bern and the power went out for all of Nelson and Golden Bay! I was in the middle of checking my mail on the computer and Mum was in the dunny when everything went black. Fortunately the laptop is half charged so I can at least still do my blogging. I will be lost though if/when the battery goes flat. I can still watch DVDs even if I can’t check my mail so all is not lost. It was fortuitous that Mum just bought a solar powered and wind-up torch which had been sitting on the window sill getting all powered up. I went outside and is odd to see all of the sky all starry and no traffic lights. We have lit candles to save battery power but we can’t watch the semi final of the netball at the Commonwealth Games.

There we are! The power just came on again. And off again!!! That didn’t last long. I am trying to boil a jug for a cup of tea as well and the water will never get hot at that rate!

Before we went to see Bern there was a spectacular sunset that I whipped home to get me camera for. Unfortunately I couldn’t get to anywhere too flash to add background interest. Apart from a little careful cropping the photos remains untouched. If I had had time to get my tripod organised I could have done better still. It was stunning.

The power just came on again. I wonder how long it will last for this time. We haven’t had a power cut for ages. Some clown probably wrapped himself round a power pole!

Mac is down in Christchurch for cousin Michael's birthday so we rang him from the resthome while we were visiting with Bern. She was happy to hear his voice and managed to say, "Hello," which is the first time I have heard her speak in months so that was lovely.

Mac's 82nd Birthday

Today it was Mac's birthday so after my course we all went out for tea and the local pub. I caught this action shot on my cell phone! WOW. The joys of modern technology.

Wind Farm

I took this photo from the airport in Palmerston North while waiting for the plane back to Nelson on Sunday after the wedding.

I was impressed by just how huge the wind farm is and how big the wind turbines must be to see them from that distance.

The photo is a panorama of three photos I joined together so you can see the length of view. I bet you can't see the join.

Kate & Scott's Wedding

This weekend I went by plane to Kate and Scott's wedding in Marton. It was great for me to catch up with a everyone all at the same time.

Dalzeil played happily on the trampoline.

Michael, Scott and John got all dressed up and looked very smart.

Ada-May was a bridesmaid and looked beautiful in the sunlight.

Here Kate and Scott take their first married steps.

I loved this photo of Scott and Kate about to 'take the plunge'.

Wayne starts a waiata after the speeches.

Scott and Kate cut the cake.

St Patrick's Day

Today I had an all day Apple computer course at Nelson's flashest venue, The Rutherford. Excellent lunch as well! I got out before the shops shut so Mum and I went out and drunk some green beer to celebrate St Patrick's Day. Dad always used to buy a Guiness on St Patrick's Day but we weren't up to that! Then I got my hair cut ready for Scott and Kate's wedding in Marton tomorrow.

Mac's New Car

Today Mum and I went round to visit Mac and have a look at his new car. It is a Honda Jazz and brand new. Mac even let me have a little drive at the wheel!!! It is quite zippy and nice and quiet to drive.

Relay For Life

Last night I participated in the cancer fundraiser, 'Relay For Life'. The idea is that people get sponsors and in teams walk non-stop around a circuit for 24 hours. I joined with the Tai Chi team. I did the eleven o'clock to midnight shift. Mum even did a lap with me in a borrowed wheel chair. The rim of the circuit is lined with memorium to people who have died from cancer, each with a candle inside the bag. At the end of the relay all the bags are turned into ashes and buried with a memorial plaque. Judy's long time friend, Yvette, made this for Judy.

A New Week Begins

Got home really late from school today so had to have MacDonald's for tea. Really don't know what all the  fuss is about. MacDonald's is mainly healthy. Better than KFC or fish'n'chips at least. School swimming sports at school today went smoothly in the Nelson sunshine so that is another thing to tick off the list.
