Ferry trip to Sausalito

Today we thought we had pretty much done San Francisco city apart from girl shopping that I didn't want to inflict on Colin as we wandered downtown to catch a transit bus to Sausalito. It was a short trip but interesting to drive through ordinary suburbs of the city. Sausalito was a lovely smaller centre on the coast without the feel of noise like downtow- it reminded me a little of Day's Bay in Wellington with all the craft shops and the like.
We caught the ferry back into the city. Here is me with the Golden Gate Bridge in the background.

Little Mini-Dylan is enjoying the trip with me.

San Francisco Day Three

Today after a lazy start we wandered about looking for a cable car to catch into downtown. Colin gallantly carried my laptop bag as we intended to ask a few questions of the Apple genius but unfortunately they were all booked up til Monday so we made an appointment for then.
After that we started to chat with a couple of nice policeman and a very articulate homeless guy who was going to college and waiting for subsidised housing. I was evidently sitting in the homeless guy's spot as we waited to see who was going to come out of a church and into a stretch limo. Then up to the 52 floor of the Bank of America Building for pina colada cocktails and a look at the misty view.

Mini-Dylan has been travelling with me and enjoyed a small pina colada as we look out over trhe bay. The journey to the 'bathroom' was the poshest in my 51 years. A lovely Asian woman welcomed me and directed me to an empty cubicle. As I left she turned the gold faucet on for me and showed me where to source the soap. On washing my hands she passed me a warmed towel to dry my hands. I don't believe in tipping but if I had taken a penny to the dunny she would have got it!

Fisherman's Wharf

Today it was off to the Fisherman's Wharf and Pier 39 to look at the sideshows and buy some souvenirs. I came armed today with my better optical camera and managed some great clearer photos but I will post trhem when I can use my own computer.
This last photo is of the security car down on the pier. I thibnk it would be hard for people to take you seriously if you were to turn up in something like that!

I look forward to your comments to these blog posts rathert than email as it is tricky to check email while I am away!

Just two days to go until the conference starts. Can't wait!

San Francisco

If you know me well you know my propensity for men in uniform- aye Sue! Well today I made a new friend in San Francisco- Officer Gary Constantine- lethal weapon, bullet proof vest and all. He was guarding the Apple Store as people stood in line to get their iPhones. I bought myself an iPod Touch- a great second prize to buying an iPhone myself. Today we went out over the Golden Gate Bridge for another photo opportunity. It was a tremendous feat of engineering and I was really pleased we went- via a open air double decker bus- just like Amy told us to.
Here is me and an Apple genius at the moment of sale in the San Francisco Apple Store- I was in gadget buying heaven.
Here is how we making our way around the big city- only just enough space for Colin and my new gadget toys!!!

I have taught Colin how to blog and he is blogging away as well so here is his take on how things are happening. To saee it click on the photo of Colin or this link.
