Salmon Fishing

Danny is here for Easter break. Yesterday we headed over the Takaka Hill for a spot of salmon fishing. Things started slowly but we got the hang of it and soon caught 2.65kg of salmon.
It was a great arrangement- you only pay for the salmon you catch and they smoke it while you wait. Click on the play button to watch a little video of me catching a salmon.

Dame Kiri Te Kanawa

Tonight Dame Kiri Te Kanawa came to Nelson's Opera in the Park. The event was held in a nearby park. I am not overly fond of that sort of singing so gave it a miss. I was busy doing my homework when it sounded like a bomb going off- fireworks! I rushed outside with the nearest camera I could find and captured this rather nice photo. I know it's blurry but I like it anyway. I uploaded at a fairly big size so you can see the detail- click on it.

Have a look at my edublog to see what I've been up to lately.

January Roundup

Haven't posted in a while so thought I had better give you a bit of an update.

Danny has taken up wakeboarding and emailed me this photo of himself out on the Wellington harbour. Of course the weather is always this good in Wellington.
Alan came round on his motorbike and I thought I would have a spin. Not!
I spent a bit of time over in Wellington in the holidays and managed to coerce Danny and Amy into a photo shoot.

Mum and I

I got a text today from my friend, Sherryn, which asked, "Are you still alive?"

Yes we are and as proof here is a photo taken by cousin, Chris, last weekend. I am flat out with reports, interviews and school camp coming up 4/5 December.

Spring Ramblings

On one of our adventures we took a picnic to Isel House- it is lovely because you can drive through the grounds and Mum doesn't have to get out of the car.
For the last week or so a graceful white swan has taken up residence on the river- no idea where he came from but he is lovely as he swans about looking pretty.

Supergirl

My self imposed exile is nearly complete. Hopefully I will return to the mainstream with renewed superpowers!

Root Canal

Some weeks ago you might remember my Xray that showed my abcessed tooth. Today I had the major part of my root canal finished. Jeanette, my dentist, was very proud of her handiwork so got her to email the finished X-ray before she cut the top off the implants. The whole procedure was not nearly as awful as I remember it being twenty years ago when I had my last root canal done- the technology has improved thank goodness.

Orchid House

Every day we go out for some sort of adventure- this time it was to the Washbourne gardens and orchid house. Mum is very patient when I get the camera out.

Kite Assisted Photography

A very talented Nelson photographer does a spot of kite assisted photography and today I did a screen capture of our place taken from his kite. If you click on the photo it will take you to a 360 degree movie- very cool. It is 1MB so give it a minute if you are on dial up. To see the movie click and hold the mouse and move to the left or right.

A Visit from Mandy and Mike

Mandy flew over from Sydney to spend a few days with Mum and Mike was able to come up from Christchurch as well so we had a great few days together.
Hopefully the Berzins won't mind but this photo was in an upload Mandy had in her camera and we don't get many photos from across the ditch.
Also this photo of the Blenheim Moores out for lunch!
I also liked this photo of Mandy by the waterfront in Havelock.
Mike brought his mountain bike with him and we dropped him off out Richmond way for him to find his own way home following the coastline as we girls went shopping for nice things.
This is what happens when you wear a bike helmet- helmet hair!
Mandy and Mike also went for a ride following the Maitai River down to our place. Mandy took my bike and it was pretty cold and dark when they got home- we were about to send out search parties!
Mum was able to be with us for much of the time and enjoyed being part of everything.
I don't usually like being in front of the camera but this photo wasn't too grotesque so thought I would publish it!
I tried to cook healthy meals when not going out for tea. Alan had a whole day off as well so we had three branches of Nana's family all in the same room at the same time.
We had lunch over on the wharf at Mapua and Hamish, the kotuku, was there keeping an eye on the tide. It was wonderful to get so close to such a rare and beautiful wild creature. It was a real treat.

We really enjoyed the visit and the chance to spend a few days together.
